Sunny days Robbi houser

These two photos were taken on the same day both at an ISO of 200, the first I loved the colors and the way the sun was hitting the red leaves, reminded me of a water color, settings were F5.6 and 1/2500 sec. The 2nd shot i was trying to hide that bright sun behind the trees, i took this shot from several different angles, i think this was my favorite, i love the halo effect on the leaves. Settings F14 1/5000 sec.

Terri Perkins -- "Spring" Green

This little guy was hanging out on our peony bush on a clear sunny morning. I chose not to use my tripod while shooting, as I didn't want to frighten him away! I was having trouble deciding on a favorite shot -- so I posted three. All three are shot with my Nikon D90, f/5.6, ISO 200, White Balance - Daylight, Spot Metering. I was playing with the exposure compensation to brighten up the images (with the first and second images at +0.7 step and the last image at +1.7 step, and a bit blown out -- but I kind of liked it!). Which one do you like best?

High Noon

Perfect example of why shooting at high noon is HARD! I couldn't get this photo metered right to save my life. I'll be going back at a different time of day for sure. If I remember, I'll post the result.

Susan Lutz 'Looking to Heaven'

I took this picture with an ISO 400, f/5.6, 1/40s. I was drawn to this angle standing all alone and looking up to the heavens.

Susan Lutz 'Earth's Beauty'

I loved the dew drops on the flower. This was taken with an ISO 400, 1/30s, f13.0

Susan Lutz 'Rooster Guarding the Garden'

This was taken with an ISO 400, 1/160s, f/9.0

Susan Lutz 'The Hand'

I love the way the hand is offering to open the door for you to come in.
I took this with an ISO 800, 1/15s, f/13.0

Water in Motion

This picture was taken with an ISO 400, f/22.0, 1/25s.

Lower Falls Robbi Houser

This was taken at F16 1/15th of a second and i have no idea what the ISO was, i was playing with it so much that day. I was standing on the bridge looking straight down at the falls, and it turned out to be a pretty cool... if moody, photo.

Barn at early evening

I really love old Barns. It was early evening and the light on this barn was incredible! I took this photo with center metering, ISO 200, aperture priority, 1/80 at F11, 105 mm. Diana Delgado

Falls Fieldtrip

I like the water crashing over the rocks in this photo. It was a wonderful field trip! Shot at f4.5, shutter 1/500, ISo 200. Shutter priority with spot metering, 105 mm. I shot 3 photos with different metering & I like this one best. Diana Delgado

Jessica Simon - "Mother's Day Blue Flowers"

Found these blue flowers on a Mother's Day outing. Canon 40D, TV, 1/60, f9, ISO 200, evaluative metering. I absolutely love the colors. Next time I would have tried a different metering, such as spot metering (I forgot!). Additionally, it looks a little dark to me and therefore not as clear a focus as I'd like.

Jessica Simon - "Field Trip, Last Shot of the Day"

This was my last shot taken for the day at Tumwater Falls. I like the blur/flow of the water and the contrast of the green moss on the rocks. I wasn't using a tripod, therefore the rocks aren't as clear as I'd like them. Canon 40D, TV, 1/15, f13, ISO 200, evaluative metering.

Heather Olsen - Flowers

This picture was taken at shutter speed 1/20, ISO 400, partial metering, with the flash on. The histogram shows fairly dark. If I had to do it again, I would have played with different settings to try to make the picture a little lighter. I liked the way the flowers looked in the water and smashed in the glass.

Unexpected

This was taken at f/5.6; 1/400, ISO 200, matrix metering. I wish I had taken a tighter shot so that there was more focus and detail on this unexpected "flower." Since I didn't get what I wanted in the camera, I cropped it, but still couldn't get the balance quite right.

Kathryn Kramer - Water flowing over rock

This was taken at almost ground level of a small amount of water flowing over a small rock. Camera was set at 800 ISO because of the shaded area with Shutter 1/4 and F13. What a fun field trip!

Terri Perkins -- Self Portrait in a Puddle

This was taken in aperture priority, f/11, 1/10 sec, ISO 200, 18 mm, Nikon D90, Center Weighted Metering, EV: +1

I was standing under the trees with bright sunlight shining through and liked the way my shadow was reflecting in the puddle. If you squint your eyes it looks like I'm wearing a pair of bell bottomed jeans!

Lindie "Seagull"

I was shooting this seagull on the log and it flew off to get a fish. I hadn't realized I had this shot until I reviewed it later. It turned out to be my favorite picture! Taken at F5.6 ISO 80, 1/500 shutter speed.

Mike "Dog Prints"

I really liked how these dog prints looked in the sand, taken F4.5 ISO 80, 1/100 shutter speed.

We went to a beach on Mothers Day and I took this shot low to the ground next to the surf. The sun is overexposed, but without a filter I could not get the coloring in the sky and water if I metered for the sun. Shot at F4.5 ISO-80 1/1250 shutter speed. I noticed I was not level, but I could fix that in Photoshop.

Mike "Seagull"

I caught this gull flying while shooting the falls. Shot at F8, ISO 250, 1/1244 sec shutter speed.

Mike "Hidden Falls"

I found this little series of falls and really liked how green and natural everything looked, but in contrast there was a bolt coming out of the wall. It looked like a small bit of industry left over from years past being grown over. I shot it at F8, ISO 80, .59 sec shutter speed.

Sunday, May 9, 2010

The shadow cast by the railing created this pattern. I probably would not have taken this picture if the scavenger hunt hadn't given me the idea. If I copied it end to end, I think it would look like a page border from the Microsoft files.
I took this laying on the grass. It reminded me of being a kid, schools out for the summer, the dog and I are down by the creek playing... I'm glad I now know what the Aperture setting is for.

Monique - Goosed

I was walking back to the truck to go home when geese starting flying in & landing on this stump, one would land & then another showed up & pushed him/her off. I was at my favorite haunt for picture taking, down at the Nisqually refuge. It was quite late in the day so I was using ISO 500 & found the spot metering was working best. My exposure mode was in Aperture priority. F/5.6 & shutter speed was at 1/125 of a second. I like that you can see the underside of the wings even on the darker side. I wish I would have had my zoom all the way at 300 to get a little closer and have less trees all around.

Bath Time - April Karreci

1/160, FS 5.6, ISO 1600, Spot Metering. We have a pond in our backyard and this little guy likes to come take baths. I would have like to have been at a different angle, but they move so quickly, I was lucky to get this.

Laurie - Two Distinct Textures

I know we're only supposed to post one image, but I have to be honest and say that I wasn't really happy with what I shot during the morning, so I went back later in the day! I ended up spending about twenty minutes watching water scum! ISO 800, F/4.5, ss 1/640, fl 75mm.

Laurie - Someone Doing Something

This was one of the first pictures I took today. Although I tried to meter correctly, I still lost some of the details in the bench, but I still like the over all effect.
ISO 100, F/36, SS 1/8 sec. Focal length 100mm

Kathryn Kramer

Windy day with lots of clouds and rain. ISO 400, Shutter 1/2500 and aperture F4.2. The dark clouds coming and going made it hard for me to get a bright picture with depth of field. The sun peeked through the storm and I got this shot.

Eastern Washington Robbi Houser

I made some attempts at taking photos of the grass blowing over in spokane this weekend.... which completely failed, so as we were driving back today i saw the clouds and i love the fields over in eastern washington, so i started clicking photos out the window as my husband drove along. SOOOO you can see his hand in the reflection of the window (because driving down the highway at 80 mph isnt really condusive to rolling down the window)... but i don't mind the hand it kind of ads a little bit to the image and the impression of movement. Camera settings 1/50 F22.

Big Steps

I took this at my nephew's first birthday party. He is just learning how to walk and I was trying to pan with the motion, but it didn't work too well since he was moving so slow:). I forgot to check the shutter speed before uploading it.

Terri Perkins -- Splash

This picture was taken with my Nikon D90 in Shutter Priority, 1/1000 sec., f/5.6, ISO 200.

I was trying to freeze both the movement of the water from the fountain and the children playing. Unfortunately I also froze the movement of the cars moving through -- I would like this shot better with out them!

I liked this image in particular because of the story it tells. This is the beginning of the story. These children were captivated by the fountain and as I was leaving were thoroughly drenched!

Drums

I wanted to show a little less blur and more of the drumsticks, but the camera would not allow me to go higher on the shutter speed. It was taken in the daytime at shutter speed 1/4, F4, ISO 250, focal lenght 44mm. Diane Delgado

Mike "Speed"

This is definitely more difficult than it looks! I have a few that turned out pretty good, but this one really gives the feeling of movement. Shutter speed 1/4 second, ISO 200, F2.8.

Heather Olsen - Tree in the Fog

I took this photo outside my front door at about 5:30-5:45 in the morning. I looked out and saw the fog and loved the way the tree looked with the fog all around it and starting to get light out. I had my shutter set at 1/10 and the ISO at 100. I would love to try to get the shot again, but using a tripod so I could get a better shot and not have to worry about blurring the picture.

Lindie "Flags"

It took a lot of shots to get this picture and I'm still not satisfied. I took this last night during the wind storm, which was blowing so hard it shook the poles too. I had the camera sitting on a solid base but not on a tripod, which probably wouldn't have made much of a difference since the wind would have blown the tripod too. I would like to hear some suggestions how I could have improved this shot. I took it at shutter speed 8 seconds, F4, and ISO 200.

Hollie Graham Full Moon

This shoot was taken in front yard around 11pm, I had to change the shutter speed several times to find the right one. I chose 1/60 sec, f/22, and ISO of 400 while using a tripod and timer. I loved that the clouds looked like rushing water! I wanted to add more clarity and focus but my view finder is misleading.

Hollie Graham "Light My Fire"

This photo was taken in my backyard, of the bonfire. I had my husband stir the fire. While I had my camera on a tripod, and set the time so there was no vibration, with a shutter speed of 1/30 sec., f/22, ISO 1600. What I like about the photo was the spark tracers. When it came to choosing the shutter speed I wasn't sure what to use. I just chose one, and kept on changing until I found one I liked. It will take some time before I will be able to choose the right one. Practice, Practice and more Practice.

Sunday, May 2, 2010

I shot these two photo one after another. The first has a shutter speed of 1/1600, ISO 1600, F4. The second has a shutter speed of 1/125, ISO 80, F7. I've often wondered how to make waterfalls look like this so I'm happy I know the secret now.

Jessica Simon - Panning With Motion

This picture was taken at the Central Pierce Fire & Rescue Firefighter Recruit Academy Graduation on Saturday (very proud of my friend Ronnie!). It was at a high school performing arts center and the lighting was dark with spotlights on the graduates and stage with the audience in darkness. This photo is one of the first pictures taken when the graduates first walked out and I was trying to get my camera adjusted to the lighting. Photo taken with my Canon 40D on TV with Shutter 1/20, f/9, ISO 1600, and the flash on. I finally got a setting to work on ISO High that I didn't need the flash for the remaining time. I like how my friend is in focus and the rest of the people are blurry. I had to crop out some heads in front of me, so I wish that I would have been more aware of that while taking the shot.

Night Lite

This light changes colors every second or so. Sitting in the dark in the dining room made this easier. This was shot at iso 100, shutter speed 1 second f/2.8. I like the jelly fish design and in the dark like this makes me think this is how a live one would see the ocean at night. I don't like the shiny bald spot on top though but it only got brighter in other shots I took when I was experimenting.

Leaves

I was trying to show the wind through the leaves. I didn't end up getting much movement in this picture, but really liked the light. Shutter 1/30; F/16.

Laurie O'Brien - Sprint

Taken on Sunday at about 10:30 a.m. ISO 200, SS 1/200, F/5.0, Focal Length 90mm.
I shoot at a lot of bike races and learning how to shoot a picture like this is one of the reasons I took this class!!! I shot about 95 pictures this morning and had fairly good success. The hardest part was not losing the subject of my pan and losing focus. I might try an even faster shutter speed next time to capture even more blur in the wheels.

Seagulls - April Karreci

Shutter 1/2000, ISO 1600, FS 5.6. I was focusing on the seagull getting ready to land and didn't even notice the duck diving below until I looked at it on my computer. I cropped out an extra dock and some other stuff, I wanted the focus to be on the bird landing and the bird diving. It was cloudy and kind of dark out, I just kept playing with the shutter and ISO and finally got something that wasn't too dark but also captured the bird in flight. I would have like to have had more color in the pictures, it is all a varying shade of gray and a little boring to me.
